Who can benefit from home health care?

Home health care can be a great option if you or a loved one is experiencing any of the following:

  • Trouble leaving the house on your own
  • Recent falls (within the past 60 days)
  • Difficulty managing blood sugar levels (for those with diabetes)
  • Challenges standing or walking
  • Feelings of sadness, anxiety, or unease
  • Open wounds that need care or sores that won’t heal
  • New or chronic swelling in your legs, ankles, or feet
  • Recent changes to your medications
  • Shortness of breath or irregular blood pressure
  • New diagnoses or change in condition

If any of these situations sound familiar, home health care may help you feel more supported, safe, and cared for at home.

Who is eligible for home health care through Medicare?

If you’re eligible for Medicare and your doctor determines that in-home care is medically necessary for your recovery or ongoing condition, you may qualify for Medicare’s home health benefit.Trouble leaving the house on your own

To qualify, the care must be:

  • Part-time or intermittent
  • Medically necessary for an illness or injury
  • Ordered and overseen by your doctor

What services does Medicare cover for home health care?

If you’re eligible for Medicare and your doctor determines that in-home care is medically necessary for your recovery or ongoing condition, you may qualify for Medicare’s home health benefit.Trouble leaving the house on your own

  • Skilled Nursing
    • Part-time nursing care to monitor your condition, manage treatments, and educate you and your caregivers. Tasks that can safely be done by a non-medical person are not covered as skilled care.

  • Home Health Aide
    • Support with personal care (like bathing or dressing) is covered short term if you are  receiving skilled care such as nursing or therapy and you have qualifying need.
  • Therapies
    • Medicare covers physical, occupational, and speech therapy if they’re necessary, safe, and effective for your condition. This care must meet at least one of these criteria:
      • Expected to improve your condition within a reasonable time
      • Requires a skilled therapist to establish and oversee a maintenance program
      • Requires a skilled therapist to safely provide ongoing maintenance therapy
  • Medical Social Services
    • Support for emotional or social needs related to your illness, such as counseling or help connecting to community resources.
  • Medical Supplies
    • Supplies like wound dressings that are ordered by your doctor as part of your care plan. (Prescription medications are not include)

What isn’t covered by Medicare?

While Medicare covers many home health services, it doesn’t pay for:

  • Around-the-clock care at home
  • Meal delivery
  • Homemaker tasks (shopping, cleaning, laundry) when these are the only services you need
  • Personal care (like bathing or dressing) if that’s the only care you require
    • Personal supplies such as incontinent supplies, briefs, or bed pads

Am I involved in decisions about my care?

Absolutely. At Artemis Home Health Care, we believe your voice is central to your care plan. You have the right to:

  • Be informed and involved in planning your care, including knowing who will provide services and how often.
  • Refuse parts of your treatment while continuing with others, as long as you understand any potential risks.
  • Request a change in caregiver at any time, without fear of discrimination or retaliation.
  • Have your family or legal guardian act on your behalf if you’re unable to make decisions yourself.
  • Be treated with dignity and mutual respect by all members of your care team.

We proudly serve many patients in assisted living communities and work seamlessly with their staff and administration. Home health remains a critical support—even in assisted living settings—and we’re here to ensure coordinated, compassionate care.
